Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lucius, beloved pianist and composer, who was found on the evening of November 14th, 2024, at his residence on Domgasse 5, Vienna. He was twenty-eight years old.

Born in Munich to the prominent Hoffmann family, Lucius chose the path of music over the vast industrial empire that awaited him. From the age of five, the piano was his voice — his way of speaking truths that words could never carry. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory and made the Austrian capital his permanent home, where he became known for intimate, salon-style recitals that moved audiences to tears.

His compositions — Whispers of the Night, The Forgotten Waltz, Moonlit Monologue — carried a depth and emotional intensity that defied his years. Those who heard him play in the candlelit halls of Prague, the quiet parlours of Vienna, or the rain-soaked hotel lounges of Berlin will carry the memory of his music for the rest of their lives.

The cause of death remains under investigation. He is survived by his father, Heinrich Hoffmann.

Lucius once wrote: "Music should not fill a room. It should empty it." Perhaps that is what his departure has done — emptied a space in the world that only his melodies could fill.

He played for small rooms because he believed music was a conversation, not a performance. He played at midnight because the darkness understood him better than the day. He played for strangers because he believed that somewhere, someone needed to hear exactly what he was feeling.

Whether the music was truly his own, or whether it came from somewhere deeper, somewhere darker — it does not diminish what it gave to those who listened. The notes existed. The tears were real. And the silence he leaves behind is deafening.

Rest now, Lucius. The piano remembers.
